THE WOOD STUDIO is in the Isle of Purbeck surrounded by World Heritage Coastline between historic Corfe Castle and Swanage, Dorset, England. Inspiration is easily drawn by the proximity of several RSPB bird reserves, Poole Harbour, National Trust and English Nature Estates.
The area is a magnet for walking, twitchers and nature lovers.
I collect all my wood from local trees that have fallen as a result of old age or gales, or from tree surgeons that would otherwise waste this beautiful natural resource.I also sometimes make use of driftwood and railway sleepers. The wood is air dried at home for several years until "fit" to carve. With a combination of bandsaw, angle grinder and disc sander; I am able to produce beautiful, exceedingly smooth sculptures at affordable prices. Some pieces may have slight shakes (cracks) or bark showing which is part of the excitement of using real wood! Each piece is a unique work of art finished with oil and natural beeswax. Much of my work has found its way worldwide.
The carvings are an ideal gift for bird and nature lovers alike or whoever appreciates something truly beautiful. This is a chance to purchase quality work, direct from the artist, avoiding greedy gallery commission.
