Kingfisher

On seeing their first kingfisher, most people are surprised how small it is. A streak of brilliant electric blue flashing low and fast over the water surface. The nest is a 2-3ft narrow tunnel excavated in bank usually over water. Each young bird needs between 12 and 18 fish daily! Kingfishers are highly territorial and will even chase their own young within days of leaving the nest.
